Liquid Aspiration Device Based on Venturi Effect Built on PDMS

In this paper, a liquid aspiration device for micro total analysis system (muTAS) and lab on a chip (LOC) applications is reported. The device is built in polidimethilsiloxane (PDMS) by molding and irreversible bonding. The working principle used for this aspiration device is the Venturi effect. By using this effect a negative pressure is created from an external positive pressure source. The actuation gas is not in contact with the aspirated liquid, avoiding contamination or diffusion between them. The experimental results confirm the device operation and show a range of aspirated volume of 0 to 120 nL when the driving pressure lies between 0 and 700 mbar.
