Modelling and Simulation of Vertical Subcooling Condensers

This paper presents a set of working equations for the dynamic simulation of vertical subcooling condensers. The model shows that the condenser's dynamic characteristics change dramatically with vapor load. The changing dynamics make it difficult to control the subcooled condensate temperature with cooling water flow. The paper also discusses two different schemes for improved temperature control. In particular a self-tuning controller could be useful on these condensers.
