An elegant method for delay estimation in mobile applications

Todaypsilas voice and data communication is mostly through mobile handsets. It has become increasingly important to range them. Ranging of these mobile phones has applications in handset power management, security and interestingly in optimal resource management. Mobile phone and the base station are constantly in touch with each other during voice or data transfer. Capturing of Transmit (Tx) and Receiving (Rx) pulses are done at handset and adequate computing power available makes it more easier to implement these sophisticated algorithms. Interestingly similar application exists in Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) fitted in aircrafts where this is equally applicable. In this paper, we focus on the novel method for estimating delay leading to a seamless integrated solution for embedded application.
