Analysis and design of a clamp-mode isolated zero-voltage-switching boost converter

An improved zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) clamp-mode modified boost power converter with output isolation by using a small network in parallel with the secondary winding of the transformer is presented in this paper. ZVS and proper core reset can be achieved through the resonance that exists between the magnetizing inductance and the parasitic capacitance. The steady-state analysis and basic design considerations are given to illustrate the principle of operation. It is shown that all switches operate at ZVS or ZCS with minimum voltage and current stresses. A 150 kHz, 150 watts prototype power converter was implemented to verify that the experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis.<>
