FTTH Deployment Status & Strategy in Korea: GW-PON Based FTTH Field Trial and Reach Extension Strategy of FTTH in Korea

In this paper, we will present the results of FTTH deployment status in Korea. In Korea, Korea Telecom has deployed FTTH with Ethernet-PON and WDM-PON. Since January 2008, 1.2 million numbers of FTTH infrastructures have deployed and among them, 0.7 million numbers of subscribers is now using the real - FTTH service. Furthermore, we made the world's first deployment in GW-PON (Giga WDM-PON) system as an access network technology and provided IP-TV, VoD and Internet services for FTTH services. We have verified the performance of GW-PON as the apartment FTTH solution.
