Two-dimensional angles of arrival estimation for antenna array

A new type of array configuration composed of three identical subarrays with two rotation invariances is presented for estimating the two-dimensional (2-D) angles-of-arrival (AOA) of spatially correlated sources which have the same arrival angle in either of two directions. By fully using the signal subspace rotation invariance properties, the authors extend the direction-of-arrival (DOA) matrix method proposed by Q. Y. Yin et al. (1989) to 2-D cases with the array structure. Computer simulations show that the method is superior to Q. Y. Yin et al.'s method in that it can tackle the spatial coherency problem and does not need any search function on spatial spectrum.<>
