Nucleotide Genomic Signal Analysis for the Detection of Pathogen Drug Resistance

The nucleotide genomic signal (NGS) analysis offers the possibility to use signal processing methods for the analysis of genomic information. The study of genomic signals reveals local and global features of chromosomes that would be difficult to identify using only the symbolic representation. NGSA allows also the study of pathogen variability and the monitoring of the development of the resistance to treatment. The paper exemplifies the concept with some results in the study of the HIV Protease (PR) gene. Mutations in certain well defined loci can consistently be linked to pathogen resistance to certain drugs.
