Reduction of Growth Rate in Bi-Substituted Bubble Garnets Using MoO3-added Melt

It was found that by adding MoO₃ to the PbO-Bi₂O₃ flux used in LPE growth of Bi-substituted garnet films, the growth rate can be reduced, facilitating control over the film growth process. The ratio of Mo to Pb in the melt was varied, and the effects on the growth rate Gr, the lattice mismatch Δa^⊥, the anisotropy energy K_u, the saturation induction 4πM_s, and the Curie temperature T_c, were observed. Changes in film properties can be compensated by small adjustments in the melt composition.
