Wireless networking services for implementation of ambient intelligence at home

Todays society is more and more demanding for intelligent environments that anticipate user's needs and serve them immediately. Consumer electronics provides people with electronic equipment that can be carried and used wherever a user will be. Smart home, for example, is able to provide multimedia entertainment and information in every room. Mobile electronic devices and distributed sensor networks can be used for interaction. Many of these services require integrated wired and wireless networking. Recently, because of its low data rate and low power consumption, the ZigBee standard is getting rising attention because it can be used to implement wireless sensor networks (WSN). On the other hand, Device Profile for Web Services (DPWS) starts being used to integrate web-services based on XML, WSDL and SOAP. It allows collaboration and dynamic reconfiguration of network services and devices. This paper will describe a method based on DPWS that allows to integrate a wireless sensor network into other IP-based networks.
