Comparative study of IPM motors with different air gap flux distribution

This paper presents a comparison of three IPM - interior permanent brushless synchronous magnet motor structures realized with the same stator geometry and with three different rotors' geometries. All rotors have got different shape of rotor's surface what caused different air gap flux distribution and afterwards effects shape of induced phase voltage - EMF. Three motors are analysed as candidate for a mass production for an AMT (automated manual transmission) application. The important factors for an AMT applications like: torque vs speed characteristics, power density, cogging torque, rotor inertia, sizing, robustness and costs are compared.
