Compact high-frequency mixing module for microfluidic chips

We present a compact microfluidic mixer module based on high-frequency flow segmentation (HFFS). The module consists of four PDMS valves switched synchronously by high- frequency (-200 Hz) clock signal. The rapid sequential switching of analyte and solvent plugs produces a high degree of mixing (0.8) within a short (1 mm) flow distance in very small (3 mm
²
) module footprint making such module suitable for large-scale integration in microfluidic chips.
