Policy-based QoS requirements in a SOA enterprise framework-an investigative analysis

This paper introduces the requirements for a policy-based QoS implementation to support different levels of service demands operating over a SOA system on the GIG. QoS refers to the ability of a network system to provide desired service to selected traffic over a heterogeneous environment where management system interoperability is achieved via implementation of SOA architecture. These QoS functional requirements will lead to QoS service definitions to include service aggregations, QoS level granularities, QoS implementations and QoS management. To achieve E2E QoS of business processes, levels of QoS need to be defined and realized according to management policy. The QoS service definitions focus on DoD Warfighter needs which will lead to maximizing network traffic flow typical of tactical communication systems found at the GIG's edge. This paper investigates the QoS functional requirements in a SOA framework which will lead to achieving optimized results for bandwidth limited environments to support the warfighter.
