Globel Watch Mission to U.S.A. - Intelligent Housing: New and Emerging Technologies for the Home-Based Healthcare Delivery

The presentation seeks to shed some light on the state of the art around Independent Living in the USA in so far as it is being enabled by technology, services and aspects of good design. It is mainly based upon the experiences and findings of a DTI sponsored Global Watch Mission to the USA in late 2006 together with some observations based upon a recent visit to look at a Universal Design Demonstration House in Virginia. The presentation will describe some of the research and commercial activities in the USA and compare them with the state of things in the UK.
