Parametric Studies of Ohmically Heated Plasmas in Heliotron E

Parametric studies of volume averaged electron temperature (Tₑ) and global electron energy confinement time ᵀEₑ of ohmically heated Heliotron E plasmas have been performed using a data acquisition computer system. The scaling laws (Tₑ) ∝(IOH · B/ne)0.5 and ᵀEₑ∝ne⁻0.4 · B/IOH1.5 are obtained directly by a code which fits the exponents of the plasma parameters to the electron temperature and confinement time. The ohmically heated plasma confinement time ᵀEₑis shown to be related to the drift parameter ξ(= VDe/VTe). The dependences of the energy confinement time on other plasma parameters is also presented. An investigation is made of the correlation between MHD activity and the confinement.
