Dual-Output Trans-Impedance Amplifier of Cost-effective CMOS Optical Receiver for Digital Audio Interfaces

This paper proposes a dual-output trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) to provide amplified voltage signal and reference signal simultaneously to implement compact and cost-effective CMOS optical receiver. Using proposed dual-output TIA, an optical receiver was designed and fabricated in a standard 0.25um CMOS technology. The receiver achieves the pulse width distortion within ±3% against wide frequency range from DC to 20Mbps as well as wide dynamic range from 30.00dBm to 23.01dBm. The measured results confirm that applying this technique in digital audio interface can make the optical receiver more small and economical.
