The influence of minor crystallization on the magnetic anisotropy of an iron-base amorphous alloy

The influence of microcrystallites on the magnetic anisotropy of the amorphous alloy Fe/sub 88.2/Ni/sub 3.9/Si/sub 4.7/B/sub 3.2/, annealed with or without a magnetic field, was studied. The anisotropy was measured using a torquemeter in a 10-kOe field. Following annealing at 480 degrees C for 10 min, the anisotropy was measured again. It was found that crystalline precipitates oriented preferentially by the applied magnetic field produced an additional magnetic anisotropy due to their shape anisotropy.<>
