Characteristics of First Generation L-Band Payloads for Land Mobiles Application in Europe

Parametric Payload evaluations for the first generation european land mobile satellite system (EMS) are presented. The reported examples show that it is possible to provide an in-orbit capacity of several hundred voice channels by a piggy back payload compatible with the current series of EUTELSAT II and ITALSAT F2 spacecrafts.
