The Fringing Capacitance of Reference Open Circuits Used in Network Analyser Calibration

The effect of incorrectly calibrating an automatic network analyser by using a wrong value for the open-circuit fringing capacitance has been studied. It was found that any measurement made using this calibration will be in error by an amount that is independent of the network analyser error network. A new linear frequency dependent value for the fringing capacitance of an APC-7 shielded open-circuit has been established.
