A Video Technique that Improves the Cardiac Roentgen-Kymography

The recording of the wall displacement of a beating heart is of great significance in the evaluation of several heart diseases. This note shows how the complex Roentgen-kymography technique can be supplanted by the analysis of the video signal derived from a radioscopic equipment by means of a television chain. According to this new technique, a displacement graph is produced by processing the TV signal of a predetermined line near the cardiac zone under investigation. This graph is recorded simultaneously with the ECG (electrocardiogram) for direct comparison. The advantages of the proposed technique are assessed and some experimental results are presented.
