Audiogram matching using frequency sampling filters

A method of producing a more precise audiogram/hearing aid characteristic match is presented. The system uses a frequency sampling filter, consisting of a comb filter exciting a bank of 167 resonators each spaced at 50 Hz intervals over the frequency range 0 to 8.3 kHz. The output of each resonator is individually adjustable by means of a weighting coefficient. The overall filter characteristic can thus be changed by altering the appropriate coefficient. Real-time applications have been investigated using a number of Texas Instrument series digital signal processing (DSP) chips, allowing the gain response of a hearing aid to be tailored to individual needs. A wearable device has been produced based on a floating point version of the DSP chip.<>
