Relative Sizing of Inverter and Surface Mount PM Motor for Traction Applications

This paper studies the coupling between the specified load torque-speed characteristic, the motor size and weight and the inverter apparent power of a drive for a traction application. The main compromises between the sizes of the main components are analyzed in the case of a surface mount PM permanent-magnet motor drive.
