Proposed Standards for the Quantification of GHG Emission Credits in the Electricity Sector

The electricity industry is a major contributor (about one third) to global CO2 emissions. Therefore it makes good sense for the industry to develop and implement technology options to achieve cost effective GHG reductions. It also makes sense for the industry to develop and implement technology options to achieve cost effective GHG reductions. Thus the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) and the IEEE Power Engineering Society's (IEEE-PES) Working Group for Implementing Technology to Limit Climate Change (CCWG) initiated standards development project P1595 in August 2001. The program goal is to develop a set of international standards for the quantification of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission credits (reductions and removals) from certifiable projects in the electricity sector.
