Concurrent engineering-A multi-disciplinary cross-functional course

As a part of an effort to bring total quality management (TQM) into the course offerings at the University of Wyoming, and particularly into interdisciplinary, multifunctional courses in the Colleges of Business and Engineering, a course in concurrent engineering was developed and offered for the first time in the spring semester, 1993. It was offered as a laboratory-oriented course, meeting twice weekly for three hours each time, with combined lectures and laboratory experience. A corequisite/prerequisite course, Introduction to Total Quality Management, a one-semester hour survey course blocked into the first six weeks of the semester, was required of all students, as this course was also offered for the first time in the spring semester, 1993. The laboratory experience was the fabrication of an electronic circuit on a printed circuit board starting with a circuit diagram provided by the instructor.<>
