Intelligent control workstation

The authors describe an intelligent control laboratory that can be used to teach undergraduate and graduate process control courses and to design intelligent control systems for real-time applications. A software library accessible by a workstation consists of several numerical simulation packages and expert systems, which cover a wide spectrum of process control knowledge. The 'wet' laboratory section features a prototype biochemical reactor with complete PID control systems interfaced with the microcomputers, which are located in the 'dry' section of the laboratory. Artificial intelligence techniques are implemented to control and manage the laboratory experiments and to serve as an intelligent teaching tool for chemical and biochemical engineering.<>
