Lightning: Phenomenology and Parameters Important for EMC

Phenomenology and various parameters of lightning discharges are reviewed. In particular, direct lightning current measurements on instrumented towers and currents inferred from measured electric or magnetic fields (as done in modern lightning location systems) are discussed. Properties of first and subsequent strokes are compared. The average number of strokes per flash and multiple channel terminations on ground are considered. Parameters of subsequent strokes in natural lightning are compared to their counterparts in rocket-triggered lightning
