Improvements in electronic hardware design productivity through design automation and the use of simulation

Three electronic hardware products were developed with a goal of achieving first-pass success and higher design productivity through design automation and the use of simulation without relying on the conventional prototype stage. The three designs cover a wide range of electronic hardware for aerospace applications: a dual processor flight-worthy military standard 1750A computer; a 12 K gate array using 1- mu -micron VHSIC class bulk CMOS technology to implement the flight-control electronics (FCE) function for advanced aircraft; and a very-high-speed (>1-GHz) radar range-counter for radars and/or laser radars using digital GaAs standard-cell technology.<>
