Cell like performance using the remotely controlled cellular transmitter

A system design description is given of a remote-controlled cellular transmitter (RCCT) capable of an output power of over 100 W ERP (effective radiated power) when used with a high-gain antenna. The RCCT provides for remote monitoring and control, and it provides for translation of the control channel. It effectively replaces the cell site as an option, at a fraction of the cost. Implementation details are given along with a performance specification of the major components, and field trial results are discussed. NYNEX's use of the RCCT to provide coverage to the eastern tip of Long Island has proven to be successful.<>
