Smart as the standard for test in the commercial air transport industry

This paper traces the historic evolution of ARINC software and hardware interface standards comprising SMART (Standard Modular Avionics Repair and Test) from 1984 through the present. Nearly a decade after several airlines conceived the idea, SMART is being used by avionics, aircraft and ATE manufacturers for development of ATE systems and test programs. SMART contains a set of software tools which provide a complete avionics testing environment.<>
