Quadrature partial response-trellis coded modulation (QPR-TCM) on fading mobile satellite channel

In previous studies of Ucan et al. [1992], to improve bandwidth efficiency and error performance, partial response signalling (PRS) and trellis coded modulation (TCM) [Ungerboeck, 1982] are considered together for 4QAM and named as 6QPR-TCM. In 6QPR-TCM, there is one to many mapping from the signal set domain to the input data range. In order to solve this catastrophic case, a new non-catastrophic QPR-TCM scheme, M/6QPR-TCM is introduced. For the encoder with three units memory followed by PRS a new scheme is proposed and named as 9QPR-TCM. In fading mobile satellite channels analytical upper bound curves of the considered schemes are compared with the related 4QAM-TCM.<
