Controlling cross-polarized radiation from substrate supported metal strip antennas for use in monolithically fabricated phased arrays

Mechanisms giving rise to cross-polarization by substrate-supported metal strip antennas are investigated, and a method for reducing cross-polarized radiation is presented. It is shown that cross-polarized radiation from substrate-supported metal strip antennas can be kept more than 30dB below the copolarized radiation level throughout the entire angular range that would be useful in phased array applications. This is achieved by careful design of the feed line for a specific substrate thickness.<>
