A self-regulating scaling method for fuzzy control

A novel form of fuzzy rule-based control is proposed which facilitates the use of self-regulating scaling factors in order to maximise the resolution of the membership functions and resulting control strategy. The proposed controller provides a method that continually scales the inputs as a function of the system error and attempts to overcome the compromise situation of achieving acceptable levels of control during both transient and steady state stages. The resulting control strategy has the ability to maximise its accuracy by increasing the resolution of its membership functions, thereby eliminating the storage requirement of an equitable large rule base and thus facilitates a more computationally efficient scheme.<>
