Modeling of low inductive connections: the planar busbar structure

The reduction of wiring inductance is of great importance in modern power electronic applications, specially for high power, fast switching converters. An important point is the reduction of the inductance due to the connections between source and converter. The busbar technology is the mean that permits the achievement of low inductance in spite of relatively long connections. It consists in the stacking of copper sheets separated by a dielectric. The aim of this paper is to present a modelization of this kind of connection. An equivalent inductive circuit for the busbar is obtained. The validity of the presented simulation method is tested on a chopper structure using busbar technology. Moreover, the current densities in a busbar cross section are available.<>
