Elimination of ill-posedness associated with shell problems

After identifying the reason for the numerical difficulty associated with the treatment of shell type potential problems by standard FEM, the paper introduces the gap-jump-float (GJF) method, an extension of gap element method (GEM), which eliminates the ill-posedness for arbitrary /spl sigma//sub i/. The applied float and jump functions are linear combinations of conventional shape functions.<>
