Spec2Si: bridging EDA tool gaps as we enter the twenty first century

This paper focuses on the state of electronic design automation (EDA) tools and discusses what must be done by the tool developers to provide a seamless transition from specification development to silicon fabrication (Spec2Si). There is no reason why existing gaps between tools can't be bridged. Spec2Si represents an integrated tool set that is capable of reading in a specification and outputting a tape for the ASIC foundry. The challenge is to get several tool manufacturers and foundries to provide the interfaces and to make the alignments necessary for such a tool's development.<>
