A fiber optic no-flow monitor for intravenous infusion

Monitoring of a potentially clogged IV (intravenous) line or an empty fluid container is normally performed visually. The authors report on an automated method for monitoring of IV infusions with an infrared fiber-optic device. This device eliminates the time-consuming visual checking process and enhances the unobstructed delivery of drugs, body electrolysis and nutrients that are beneficial to patients.<>
