On a choice of the optimum sounding signal for a time-delay measuring system

The time-delay spectrometry (TDS) method is recollected from a general standpoint. All sounding signals allowing to measure the response function of a system under study are presented. It is shown that exact evaluation of the response can be only done in the adiabatic regime. A simple mechanical model describing TDS system performance is proposed and used for investigation of the inverse problem. Perturbation theory enabling to obtain the asymptotic solution is formulated.<>
