Analysis of emitter photocurrent collection efficiency in short emitter solar cells

In this paper the authors consider the collection of photocarriers in solar cells with shallow emitters. The problem is analyzed using the Boltzmann transport equation to describe the motion of carriers and is solved for the case of elastic collisions. The results indicate that the drift-diffusion theory with infinite recombination velocity assumed at the surface is a poor approximation whereas with a realistic finite value for surface recombination velocity the solution agrees well with the Boltzmann solution.<>
