Synthesis of long lowpass ladders

This paper describes methods to synthesize physically-realizable LC ladders which approximate a desired input impedance function. The normalized input resistance function is represented as the reciprocal of a product of real factors constructed from its symmetrical s-plane poles. This form permits an unconstrained optimization to be used, and also provides a basis for a display of target function, current function, and poles which allows a person to aid the search process. An example showing the development from fifteen to twenty-three elements is used as a vehicle for presentation and discussion.<>
