Gloss sensing system using spatial filter with multiresolution

A new gloss sensing system is proposed. A spatial filter G representing the human retina function is utilized for the extraction of glossiness. The light intensity distribution h/sub in/ of the object is convoluted with the spatial filter G. In this study, the filter's size of G increases with the light intensity of the object. Using the maximum value H/sub max/ of the distribution obtained by the convolution of h/sub in/ with G, the authors give a new definition G/sub f/ of glossiness. New glossiness G/sub f/ extracted from the various objects with the radii of 4/spl simspl infin/ mm corresponds well with psychological glossiness over the wide gloss range.<>
