Fuzzy-controller for flow and mixture regulation in an aircraft deicing vehicle

The results of traditional control theory often are unsatisfactory when dealing with real, nonlinear systems of high order that show parameter and structure uncertainties. A fuzzy controller does not need any mathematical description of the system, and is especially suitable for control of technical, nonlinear processes for which verbal rules are known. The author introduces the fuzzy flow and mixture regulation of a mobile deicer. In comparison to the originally used structure-variable linear controller, the fuzzy control system proves to be considerably better in terms of guidance and disturbance attributes. It clearly shows higher robustness in practical operations. On the basis of the positive results a study was performed to research the robustness of a fuzzy hybrid system related to parameter and structure uncertainties. Efforts were made to find a way to systematically design fuzzy controllers. A simulation of a two-mass-system was used. The results show the great potential of fuzzy logic control.<>
