Genetic search for optimal reactive power dispatch of power systems

This paper is concerned with application of genetic algorithms (GAs) to optimal reactive power dispatch and voltage control of power systems. A decomposed coding structure is proposed in the genetic search approach to code a large number of variables involved in the large-scale systems. Simulation results, compared with that obtained using a conventional gradient-based optimisation method, are presented to show the potential of applications of the proposed methodology in power system economical operations.<>
