High-performance motion control of an induction motor by input-output linearization

Compares the well-known method of field-oriented control for induction motors with an approach based on input-output linearization. The optimal choice of flux reference, to achieve maximum torque under the constraint of bounded voltages and currents, is incorporated in the algorithms. The input-output linearization controller does not assume that the flux variables are regulated to constant values, or that they vary slowly. Therefore, It is useful for tracking trajectories with sharp variations of both the velocity and flux. This is verified with experimental results which show that, for some trajectories with stringent tracking requirements, the input-output controller is capable of performing the task while the field-oriented controller is not.<>
