Analysis of multilayered semiconductor leaky rib waveguides

Presents an easy to implement, accurate, two dimensional simulation of a leaky rib waveguide using the discrete spectral index method. The results obtained clearly indicate that the nature of the radiation losses encountered in leaky rib waveguides can be exploited to engineer a structure that has the modal benefits of being essentially single moded at dimensions considerably larger than those of a similar rib waveguide based upon a low refractive index substrate.<>
