Numerical analysis of the effective propagation constant in the medium composed of randomly distributed particles

The effective propagation constant K of a discrete random medium composed of many dielectric particles has been analyzed by EFA (effective field approximation), QCA (quasicrystalline approximation) and QCA-CP (QCA and coherent potential) in the case where the optical path length is very large in the medium. These methods lead to a reasonable K for non-large dielectric constants of particles, while the authors' methods yield an unphysical dependence of K on large dielectric constants of particles: that is, the real part of K does not become large for increasing the dielectric constant. The authors remove the unphysical dependence and present new results for K of their method, comparing with the results of EFA, QCA and QCA-CP, by calculating the effective dielectric constant in the medium.<>
