R.R. Wilson prize lecture: adventures with accelerators

In this paper I plan to cover 60 years of accelerator history in half an hour. In 60 years there are a little over a million half hours, so this will be a compression by a factor of 10/sup 6/. I can't be very complete-just a few glances at that history as seen from wherever I was at the time.<>
