Generation of traveling wave mode in a chained neural oscillator network model

A chained neural oscillator network model is analyzed for a possible mechanism of generation of biological rhythm, such as locomotion and peristaltic movement. Each oscillator unit is inhibited by its nearest neighbors. Numerical analysis using a Poincare map and computer simulation of the model clarify the characteristics of oscillation. It is found that among multi-stable oscillatory solutions, the traveling wave mode is generated by the chained networks of ring and linear structures, and that it can occur not only by setting proper initial conditions but also by transition from other modes with the change of a parameter.<>
