The human dynamics of operator interfaces

Issues involved in evaluating and assuring the effectiveness of the human side of the operator interface are described. A number of time-tested methods of dealing with these issues are reviewed, including approaches to managing the operator's attention, the location of the operator interface, the determination of the optimal physical characteristics, ergonomic considerations, methods of operator-interface acquisition, and the justification of advanced operator interfaces.<>
