Magnetic properties of Sm/sub 2/(Fe/sub 1-x/Co/sub x/)/sub 17/N/sub y/ compounds and their bonded magnets

Sm/sub 2/(Fe/sub 1-x/Co/sub x/)/sub 17/N/sub y/ compounds (X=0 to 1) are prepared by nitrogenation of Sm/sub 2/(Fe/sub 1-x/Co/sub x/)/sub 17/ alloy powders (about 30 mu m) in high-purity nitrogen gas at a pressure of 4.9 MPa, at 550 degrees C for 1 to 5 h. H/sub A/ and sigma /sub s/ of these samples are measured with magnetically aligned powders. It is found that H/sub A/ and sigma /sub s/ values of Sm/sub 2/(Fe/sub 0.8/Co/sub 0.2/)/sub 17/N/sub 3.03/ compound are 12.83 MA/m and 191.0*10/sup -6/ Wb-m/kg. Epoxy and zinc-bonded magnets were prepared from Sm/sub 2/(Fe/sub 0.8/Co/sub 0.2/)/sub 17/N/sub 3.03/ compound powder by a compression molding process. Zn-bonded magnets are heated at 425-475 degrees C for 4 h in an Ar atmosphere. The magnetic properties of an anisotropic compressed epoxy-bonded magnet are (BH)/sub max/=124.8 kJ/m/sup 3/, J/sub r/=0.963 T and H/sub cJ/=488 kA/m, and the (BH)/sub max/ of zinc-bonded magnet is 68.4 kJ/m/sup 3/.<>
