A new asynchronous protocol for microcomputer communication

A new asynchronous protocol has been developed to meet the needs of microcomputer communication. The heart of this protocol is the 'break' signal, a unique signal that cannot be introduced in the standard data stream. Every standard command is preceded by the break signal. The command format contains the protocol signature followed by slave address, command bytes, I/O device address, the address from which data must be retrieved, and the number of bytes/sectors to be transferred. There are five different protocols defined for this asynchronous communication: bus arbitration protocol (BAP); command transfer protocol (CTP); bus access protocol (BACP); data transfer/receive protocol; and retransmission protocol.<>
