An H/sub infinity / governor exciter controller design for a power system

The application of H/sub infinity / optimal control theory to the design of a supplementary excitation and governor control system to improve the stability and performance robustness of an electric power system is examined. This study is based on a single-machine, infinite-bus system. The effectiveness of the proposed controller was investigated using simulation of the nonlinear model. The simulation results show that the controlled system is robust in the face of different types of disturbances to which a power system can be subject, such as changes in voltage or power reference level, and three-phase short circuit at the infinite bus terminal.<>
